'Yu-Gi-Oh!' news: Three new games to release in 2016, record advance ticket sales for 'The Dark Side of Dimensions'


The world of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” is making its way to a nostalgia trip, as Konami announced a set of new games based on the hit card game and anime series. Also, advance tickets for the upcoming new theatrical film has been a success, with sales records setting an all-time high record.

At the recently held Jump Festa 2016the annual anime and manga convention by manga publisher ShueishaKonami took the stage to announce that three new games will be coming to fans next year for the Nintendo 3DS, Android and iOS devices, and PC. Konami did not detail if the game would have a theme focused on the current anime season of the franchise, “Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC V” or an entirely new game with a new approach to gameplay.

Each platform will have their game released on separate periods next year. The Nintendo 3DS version will be coming sometime around summer 2016; the version for the Android and iOS devices will be coming spring 2016; and the PC version will have a release date of sometime around winter 2016.

In other news, the new and upcoming movie of the hit card game and anime franchise, “Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions” recently held an advance ticket selling session in Japan, where the film will be having its theatrical debut. Fans who have been able to get a hold of advance tickets were treated to a free “Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon” card. Out of the 200,000 tickets available that will be sold across 130 theaters in Japan, a massive amount of 88,000 tickets were sold in advance in just two days from Dec. 12 to 13. The sales made record as all-time top sales in advance tickets for distributing company Toei. A second batch of advance ticket selling will be held on March 5, 2016, with an unannounced freebie item.

“Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions” opens April 23.
