The third installment in the action-packed movie franchise “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” has finally been given a release date as Paramount Pictures set the sequel’s premiere on Jan. 20, 2017.

The film, currently shooting around Toronto, Canada, brings back Vin Diesel who originally portrayed the role in the first movie back in 2002. Fans may remember that his titular character was an extreme sports athlete who was blackmailed by the United States government to take down a group of international terrorists. This marks Diesel comeback to the franchise after Ice Cube took over the part in 2005’s “xXx: State of the Union.”

In the new movie, the narrative will feature him coming out of his self-imposed exile to get his hands on a sinister and possibly threatening weapon dubbed as the Pandora’s Box.

Starring alongside Diesel are Indian actress Deepika Padukone as the female lead, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette and martial arts maestros Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa. Yen is touted to be the villain, while Samuel L. Jackson also returns to reprise his role. Additional filming location includes the Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Ariadna Gutierrez, who is more known as Miss Colombia in last year’s Miss Universe pageant, is in talks to become Vin’s love interest. The beauty queen is said to have significant part which composes of six scenes and three pages of dialogue and she has reportedly made her way to the Dominican Republic to shoot some of her parts.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor is also believed to appear in the flick in a yet to be disclosed role.

“xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” is being produced by Revolution Studios, Roth Kirschenbaum Films and Diesel’s One Race Film. It is directed by D.J. Caruso with the script penned by Chad St. John and current revision by F. Scott Frazier.
