Finally, excited fans can now mark the date on their calendars, as Paramount Pictures recently revealed the official release date for the upcoming sequel and soft reboot film “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.”

According to a report by Deadline, Paramount Pictures, the official film distributor of the new movie, gave an official release date for the upcoming Vin Diesel action adventure film, “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.” The film will hit theaters early next year, on Jan. 20.

The upcoming film will mark the return of Diesel to the film franchise that had gone into a long hiatus after the 2005 “xXx: State of The Union,” which starred Ice Cube instead of Diesel. The original 2002 “xXx” film was well received and was a blockbuster hit, whereas the second non-Diesel film was not able to gather box office gross and critical acclaim like the first film did.

The following is the official synopsis for the film:

“The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’ will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.”

Joining Vin Diesel is a set of returning and new actors. Samuel L. Jackson returns as he respires his role as National Security Agency Agent Augustus Gibbons. Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone will also star opposite Diesel’s Cage, and will mark her first film in Hollywood. Thai martial arts star Donnie Yen will play the role of the villain Xiang.

“xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” is currently filming in Toronto, Canada, with additional filming to be done in the Dominican Republic.
