Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 release date, specs: fingerprint sensor may be included, powered by latest MediaTek chip

A recent leaked photo of the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has surfaced online, following the previous announcement of Xioami CEO Lei Jun regarding its specifications, and an official release date.

And alleged low quality photo of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 was posted through Leaksfly’s Twitter account. The “leaked” image showed the back panel of the alleged Redmi Note 2. While it does not offer any other major detail, it does point out to one feature that is shown at the back of the phonea spot where there seems to be a fingerprint scanner. The supposed scanner shown in the image was circular, a diversion from the usual square scanner, and situated just below the flash lens. The image also shows that the Redmi Note 2 may very well go with the design of its predecessor, with the volume and power buttons on the side, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. Additionally, the Redmi Note 2 looked to be having a metal body make, a notable upgradeif everfrom the plastic made predecessor Redmi Note.

Previously, NDTV Gadgets reported that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced through Weibo that Xiamoi’s upcoming Note smartphone (note that the name Redmi Note 2 is not yet official) would be coming on June 29. In addition to this, a Redmi Note Pro model is expected to come along the Redmi Note 2.

Some of the rumored specifications of the Redmi Note 2, among others, include a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1080×1920 resolution, Android 5.0 or 5.1 with Xiaomi MIUI on top, a 13 megapixels rear-facing camera, a 5 megapixels front-facing camera, all powered by a battery of more than 3000mAh in capacity. The new device is also said to support TD-LTE network connectivity (previous Redmi Note variants supported 3G and 4G-LTE).

The Redmi Note 2 is also rumored to be running under the latest quad-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) chipset.
