Less than a week before its scheduled launch, the photo and price of Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been leaked online preempting the announcement event scheduled by the company on August 13.
According to a report by IBTimes, @KJuma, a Chinese leaker posted a photo of the retail package of the budget phablet which gave excited fans an idea about which of the rumored specs the unit will carry.
Based on the leaked image, the model will run on MIUI 6, which is an equivalent an Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS. It will also have 2GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage. However, users will only be able to utilize 10.82 GB out of the total.
The unit will also run on a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 Octacore CPU.
Tech blog mobipicker indicated that the device will be available at a USD$177 but earlier reports indicated that the price point will only be around $128. The site however, indicated that information on its site was still not official.
While it would seem that the leak is consistent with earlier rumors about the specs and features, it was also suggested that the packaging may only be for the prototype version.
According to a report by the Phone Arena, two versions of the handset will be made available. One will feature the Snapdragon 615 SoC while the other is rumored to use the MediaTek MT6795 chipset.
Meanwhile, other specs expected out of the new handset is that it will have a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution screen. 2GB of RAM and 16GB of non-expandable storage. The rear camera is expected to be 13MP while the front cam will be at 5MP.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is rumored to measure 8.05mm and weigh 159 grams. It is expected to feature a 3100mAh and a pre-installed Android 5.0.2 is pre-installed.
After the launch on August 13, phones will be released in the market on August 16.
