Chinese electronics company, Xiaomi, surprised its fans in India by releasing the Redmi Note Prime, while everyone was geared up with the launch of Redmi Note 2 Prime instead. However, it looks like it is still a win-win situation for Xiaomi fans in the country as the new phone also packs some features that makes it worth a second look.

The Redmi Note 2 measures 5.5 inches. It is equipped with 1280 x 720 pixel IPS full touch screen display and is powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

Featuring two cameras, the device’s main one is 13 megapixels, while its front facing one is 5 megapixels. Users of the phone do not need to worry about storage as the phone is outfitted with an internal memory of 16 GB and has a microSD slot shall an external memory be needed. It also supports dual SIM and 4G in terms of connectivity,

Unfortunately, despite the phone being Xiaomi’s latest grand release, the company has opted to use an older platform in Android 4.4 Kitkat partnered with Xiaomi’s self developed MiUI 7 interface.

The new Redmi Note Prime smartphone will start at a retail price of INR 8,499 or $125 on Mi.com and will be exclusively sold via Amazon India.

Director of Category Management of Amazon India, Noor Patel, talked to website Phone Arena regarding the current set up of Xiaomi with the retail outlet. He said, “We are excited to be the partner of choice for Xiaomi and offer our customers exclusive access to the new Redmi Note Prime. Xiaomi has been one of the most popular smartphone brands on Amazon.in, witnessing a continuous growth in demand.
