The new Xiaomi MIUI 7 beta is now live! For users who want to get their hand early on the MIUI 7, the global developer version is now available for the Xiaomi Redmi 2, Redmi 1s, Mi 4i, Mi 4, Mi 3, Redmi Note 3G, and the Redmi Note 4G.
Here’s an easy way to manually update a Xiaomi device to MIUI 7 via Recovery ROM, as the beta update via OTA is not yet available for automatic download.
Before doing the update, it is always recommended that important data should be backed up, even if the process does not wipe out the phone data.
1.) Download the corresponding Recovery ROM file for the Xiaomi device: Xiaomi Mi 4i, Mi 4, Mi 3, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi Note, and Redmi 4G. Rename the downloaded file to “update.zip” afterwards.
2.) Copy the said downloaded file to the root folder of the internal storage of the device, by connecting the device to the computer via USB cable. Copy the file to the root folder (not on any subfolder, as it will not work).
3.) Go into recovery mode. There are two possible steps in doing so:
a.) Open the Updater app, click the “…” on the top right corner, and choose “Reboot to Recovery mode”.
b.) Turn off the device, then hold the volume up button and the power button at the same time.
4.) Choose desired language, then select “Install update.zip to System One” and confirm. After the update process is completed, choose “Reboot to System One”, and the device will now boot up running on MIUI 7. Enjoy!
One of the highlights of the new features of the MIUI 7 is that it works to save data usage when connected to the internet for up to 50%. This was made possible through Xiaomi’s partnership with Opera Max to provide the Data Saver feature. This feature compresses media downloaded via the browser and other third party applications.
