Xiaomi’s latest flagship, the Mi 5, will be making its debut at the end of this month in India, its second largest market after China.
The Chinese company reportedly sent out press invites to conduct the launch of Mi 5 at New Delhi, India on March 31. One of the key features that the device can boast about is its low cost, considering the great specifications that it carries under the hood. At this point, it is still uncertain how much the device will be priced in the market, but it is expected to be less than 25,000 INR or $375, which is around half to third of the current price of other companies with similar features.
In a statement by Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s Vice President of International Operations, during the company’s announcement of the latest device in the Mobile World Congress last month, he revealed how they continue to enjoy excellent growth because of the new products that they are able to introduce in the market, in an interview with Business Insider.
He added, “India is soon going to be the second largest smartphone market in the world, only behind China, and with much faster growth. And that’s a market where we are already doing super well.”
As for the specifications of the device, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, along with 3GB of RAM with options of either a 32GB or 64GB internal storage. It also comes with another variant called Mi 5 Pro, which carries 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The more notable feature of the latest flagship, however, is its ability to withstand pressure from different materials unscratched. Its ceramic finish, when tested under different items such as keys, saw, and file, still came out looking very well.
The company continues to focus on China, India, and smaller Asian markets as its target, but it is looking into expanding to the west in the future.
