Will the long rumored Xiaomi Mi 5 be finally unveiled?

As reported by Gizmo China, Xiaomi had recently announced via the company’s official Weibo account a major event that will take place on October 19. No other details were given about the event, but it is expected that one of the reveals that will be done is the unveiling of the Mi Pad 2 tablet. Also, the long rumored Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship smartphone, which has been in the rumor mill for quite a long time now, is expected to finally become a reality at the event.

In a previous report by GSM Arena, what seems to be the teaser announcement image for the Mi 5 was leaked online. While the image leak did not reveal anything significant, it greatly hinted at the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the Mi 5, as it showed a fingerprint on the lower part of the image.

A previous massive leak had given users a fair idea of what to hope for from the upcoming flagship once it is released. The Mi 5, according to the leaks, will sport a 5.3-inch wide display with a Quad HD resolution, equipped with 2.5D Gorilla Glass protection. It is said to come running on a Snapdragon 810 processor.

Another rumor also said that the Mi 5 will be carrying a Snapdragon 820 processor. If the device will indeed be finally launched on the 19th of this month, it is then very unlikely for the device to sport such an SoC, as the phones carrying the SD 820 are yet to debut in the market.

As for the camera, it is expected to come with a 16 megapixels rear camera, with a 13 megapixels front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. It boots on Android Lollipop 5.1 with Xiaomi’s very own MIUI on top of itand with the recent unveiling of the MIUI 7, the new flagship may very well come running the new MIUI. The device will be powered by a 3000mAh battery and will cost a price that is around $386.

Previous rumors have pointed to a possible launch in November. But seeing that an event is coming right now, the possibility of the Mi 5 launch cannot be ignored.

Further details and updates about the upcoming Xiaomi event is expected to be available in the following days.
