Xbox Games with Gold for August 2016 free games: 'WWE 2K16,' 'Spelunky' among lineup

Xbox Live Gold members will have some new free games to look forward to as the list for the Xbox Games with Gold for August has been released.

According to Major Nelson, Xbox One gamers will get “WWE 2K16” as a free download from Aug. 16 to Sept. 15. The wrestling game, which was released by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts in 2015, is said to have the largest roster in the game’s history, featuring over 120 unique playable characters including WWE superstars John Cena, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and more. The game is originally listed at $39.99.

Another title coming to Xbox One is “Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.” The hack and slash game, which was released in 2011, is the latest entry in Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors crossover series. Originally priced at $59.99, members can download the title for free during the entire month of August.

Meanwhile, Xbox 360 players can get “Spelunky,” an adventure game wherein a player controls a spelunker who explores a series of caves while looking for treasure, fighting enemies, and saving damsels in distress. “Spelunky,” which is priced at $19.99, will be free for Xbox Live Gold members from Aug. 1 to 15.

Another Xbox 360 title is “Beyond Good and Evil HD.” Though the action-adventure game made its debut in 2003, gamers will find that the story is still on par with recent titles as it follows the adventures of Jade, an investigative reporter and skilled martial artist who works with a resistance movement to uncover a planet-wide alien conspiracy. The game is originally priced at $14.99 and is free from Aug. 16 to 31.

As with all current Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles, “Spelunky” and “Beyond Good and Evil HD” are backward compatible on the Xbox One.

In the meantime, Xbox Live Gold members can still download a few of the free games that were listed on the July Games with Gold roster. For Xbox One, “The Banner Saga 2” is available until July 31, while “Tumblestone” is free until Aug. 15. Xbox 360 players can still get “TRON: Evolution” for free until July 31.
