“Guess the secret’s out!” says the tweet of Alexandra Shipp as she sports her almost bald head, an indicator for her Storm role in X-Men Apocalypse. IGN reports that fans have been speculating a mohawk hairstyle reminiscient of the 1980s setting, last seen at 1983’s Uncanny X-Men #173 comic book. They are currently filming in Montreal, Canada with release in theaters May 27, 2016. Just as supportive of giving out some spoilers is film maker Bryan Singer, whose Instagram feed leaks X-Men Apocalypse awesomeness.
The Hollywood Reporter analyzes the evolution of Storm’s comic book hairstyle as symbolic of a deeper metamorphosis in her character. Noted patterns like when her hair was longer it meant good times for Storm, and her Mohawk may serve as a prelude to the possible problems she may have in the Apocalypse storyline.
Comic Book recounts that film maker Bryan Singer posted the short haired photo of Shipp with her co-stars on Instagram as well. Among many other things, Singer posted the elegant lobby of the X-Mansion, and a panorama of the set for Cerebro with the caption “Cerebro is Spanish for brain,” as cited by Uproxx Movies. The film cast is also seen together a lot in public events like a recent car show. The fever among comic book fans and film buffs won’t stop burning with all the visual treats being provided by the cast and film maker himself.
Storm controls the weather and can fly. In the comic book version, she fights for equality between mutants and humans with an alter ago of Ororo Munroe. Mohawk or not, Shipp promises a new slant to Storm which will clearly distinguish her from previous actresses who played the role like Halle Berry. She stars alongside Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Rose Byrne, Oscar Isaac and Olivia Munn.
