San Diego Comic Con was a field day for X-men fans as much of the awaited characters are unveiled. Big baddie Apocalypse, portrayed by Oscar Isaac, was revealed along with the four horsemen. Apocalypse is the pioneering mutant in the comic universe and takes under his helm four horsemen to do his bidding of plaguing the world: Famine, Pestilence, Death, and War. According to Christian Today, Angel, Storm, Psylocke, and Magneto will be playing these roles.
Angel has a unique story arc in the comic version that she will be turned into an archangel later when he dies. Angel is portrayed by Ben Hardy. Storm and Psylocke, played by Olivia Munn, had their share of TV show airtime as Horsemen previously. Magneto’s casting as one of the four is the biggest surprise since he is supposedly settled with his family. Apocalypse has a very manipulative personality and this will wreak havoc on everyone who crosses him.
It is quite expected by fans though that Storm and Psylocke will later switch over to the good side of the mutants. Before that, though, Storm will be swayed by Apocalypse to join his cause under the guise of being the god, in some form of a spiritual search on the side of Storm, reports Ecumenical News. Alexandra Shipp will be playing the role of Storm.
According to some fan sites like Comic Planet Culture, there is a notable lack of Logan or Wolverine in this installment. This is surprising since he has been one of the front runners in X-Men installments for as back as fans can remembers. Perhaps this is a way of X-men properly distributing airtime for the different characters’ development.
May 26, 2016 is the date set for the release of the latest film X-Men: Apocalypse in theaters nationwide.
