'Wonder Woman' movie news: First look at upcoming film released


Part of the trinity of the biggest superheroes that will be coming to the highly anticipated “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is Gal Gadot’s version of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Just recently, DC Entertainment in partnership with The CWhome of some hit DC Comics seriesaired a special episode titled “DC Films Presents: Dawn of The Justice League.” The expansive big screen universe of the Justice League and the entire DC Extended Universe was detailedand part of it was a first look footage from the upcoming standalone “Wonder Woman” film.

The special episode was hosted by Kevin Smith, with the special participation of DC Comics Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. Following Wonder Woman’s debut in “Batman v Superman,” she will be having her own standalone film that will hit theaters next year.

The special showed a first look at Gal Gadot as the superheroinefrom her homeland of the Amazons to World War I where the upcoming film will be set.

“Wonder Woman is, like, one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don’t know her origin like they know Superman’s origin or Batman’s origin,” said Johns. “So what we want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from, and why she does what she doesand we’ve never seen her in a film before.”

“She comes from the Greek mythology,” he continued. “She was born on this island of Amazons called Themyscira. These Amazons were once created to protect man’s world, but they since abandoned it. And Diana is asking constantly, ‘Why don’t we do what we were created to do: to protect man?’, and they say: ‘Because they’re not worth it.’ And this takes her on a journeyinto our world.”

“We’re gonna see her coming of age,” actress Gal Gadot added. “The entire history, what’s her mission.”

“She’s the best fighter in the DC universeshe has strength and speed, and she has been training her whole life for war,” Johns added.

The untitled “Wonder Woman” film will be released in theaters on June 23, 2017.
