The DC Extended Universe will have its first major film served to the world via the upcoming and much awaited “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” With that, one of the film’s trinityWonder Womanwill soon have a standalone film. Starring opposite Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman will be Chris Pine as Steve Trevor.
In a recent interview with The Toronto Sun, Pine talked about his character, and he also gave tidbits of information that confirmed a long running rumor regarding the setting of the upcoming film.
Pine described how his character will be in the film, who will be the love interest of the heroine Wonder Woman. Unlike in most superhero films in the past where the dashing guy saves the damsel in distress, here it will be the girl saving the guybut that doesn’t mean that Steve Trevor won’t be tough in any way either.
“Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who’s seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization,” Pine said. “He’s a worldly guy, a charming guy and it’s going to be a great, fun film. There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes. Patty is just directing the daylights out of it. Its shot beautifully feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility.”
Pine also confirmed that the film will be set in the World War I era, and he even praised the film’s costume and time concept execution that made the entire setting of the film very believable.
“It’s a period we don’t see often; it’s usually World War II,” Pine said, referencing the original WWII setting of Wonder Woman stories in the comics. “Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, five hundred extras all in period dress. I’d never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here. It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I’ve got people in deep background that have entire lives. It’s awesome, it’s actual make-believe land.”
Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman will make her debut appearance on the upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” opening on March 25. The untitled Wonder Woman film will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
