'Wolverine 3' news: older Professor X, rumored Mutant X-23; Official movie title said to be 'Weapon X'

Filming for Hugh Jackman’s rumored last portrayal of Logan, also known as the iconic clawed-mutant “Wolverine,” is currently underway and photos of the set revealed some of the characters that may also grace the big screen.

Just Jared shared images of the movie production currently taking place in New Orleans. The images featured a slightly older looking Charles Xavier/Professor X (Patrick Stewart) on his wheelchair being pushed by Logan. In the scene, the actors reportedly rushed out of a casino into a truck. The two franchise’s regulars were later joined in the shot by a young actress who is deemed to be the incarnation of a new character, Laura Kinney aka X-23.

Meanwhile, reportedly reliable tipster X-MenFilms claims that 20th Century Fox has already registered the official titles of the film which will be called “Wolverine: Weapon X” or simply “Weapon X.”

This apparently made some fans excited about the adaptation of comic book series with the same name that ran from 2002 to 2004. Among the story elements, the most notable is the introduction of Mutant X-23 or who others called as “female Wolverine.”

Moreover, Comic Book Resources noted that there is evidence supporting the introduction of X-23 which can be seen in the team-up movie “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Moviegoers may remember that in the post credits scene, it was shown that someone stole a vial of Wolverine’s DNA. The other samples had the name Essex on it. In the comics, the Essex Corporation is owned by Mr. Sinister who is known for his penchant for cloning.

Recently, British actor Richard E. Grant was added to the ensemble for a role described to be a mad scientist type. This leads to speculations that he may play Mr. Sinister. However, since neither the production team nor the studio has commented on the matter, available information should be taken with a grain of salt.

“Wolverine 3” is slated to open in theaters on March 3, 2017.
