The sixth book in the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” titled “The Winds of Winter” remains to be the most anticipated book of the year. With reports that the release date might be as early as next month, fans have been reeling with excitement. However, other reports state that the release has been pushed to a much later date, probably during the end of the year, due to author George R.R. Martin’s struggles in completing the book.
“The Winds of Winter” is considered to be long overdue with fans waiting for more than four years for its publication. They have also expressed their disappointment given that its TV adaptation “Game of Thrones” season 6 is ahead of the book now, which might spoil some events that will happen in the book.
Martin previously stated that he is bent on finishing the book before the sixth season of the TV adaptation airs, even highlighting that publishing “The Winds of Winter” before the show was important to him. He said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “I wish it was out now. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviewsanything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”
Some of the plot details were released by Martin online, giving fans an idea on what to expect in the book, specifically Jon Snow’s parentage. Martin dropped a major hint through Twitter early this month although the post has long been deleted. It said, “I’ll give you a little hint: Jon’s parents’ names rhyme with “Schmobert Schmaratheon” and “Schmatelyn Schmark,” which fans thought to be Robert Baratheon and Catelyn Stark.
The first episode of the sixth season has already aired and fans will have to see if the next episodes will talk about Jon Snow’s parents.
