With the recent conclusion of “Wayward Pines” season 2, fans are left hanging and wanting to know if the series is continuing on to season 3. Although FOX still has not made an official announcement, the company’s Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden said that she could definitely feel a next season coming.
“I definitely think there could be a season three,” she told reporters during the Television Critics Association summer press tour (via /Film). “It’s still the number one scripted show of the summer. It struggled. Most shows struggle year to year. We don’t know yet what we’re going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, ultimately how big that audience is. I think I’m sharing a point of view of Night’s that the first couple episodes were trying to find its way in a reset. By sort of the third episode on, it really hit its stride. It’s hard when you have to reinvent a series each season.”
She also revealed that they are in talks regarding “Wayward Pines” season 3 with its director and producer M. Night Shyamalan and creator Chad Hodge. According to Walden, their pitch for the next season is compelling, and she likes it very much.
It is unknown what this season 3 idea could be about, as season 2 already covered the last two books of the novels, Christian Times reported. It is likely that they will create new material for the next season, which could be about anything as the season 2 finale presented an open ending.
There is a possibility of a time jump, which may see the inhabitants of Wayward Pines reawakening in another world and in another time where the world is restored to its original state, Movie News Guide reported.
“Wayward Pines” season 3 has yet to be confirmed, so fans can only cross their fingers to see what Shyamalan and Walden’s “compelling idea” could be.
