'Wayward Pines' season 2 news: New season to premiere May 25, season 1 actors return

The second season of FOX’s hit and critically acclaimed series “Wayward Pines” will premiere on Wednesday, May 25 on FOX.

According to the official press release from FOX, the upcoming second season “will pick up after the shocking events of Season One, with the residents of Wayward Pines battling against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation.”

The originally planned one-season “Wayward Pines” was based on the bestselling series of books by Blake Crouch. The entire 10-episode run adapted and covered the story of the entire trilogy of books. The second season, thus, will feature an original story with only some of the characters being familiar to book fans.

New characters include Dr. Theo Yedlinplayed by Jason Patrica new resident of Wayward Pines, who is recently revived from the suspended animation chambers and shortly finds himself in the middle of the rebellion, as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is.

The town will be run by Sherriff Jason, David Pilcher’s young acolyte. A number of season 1 actors will be returning for the new season, too.

Executive producers for the series include Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan, Mark Friedman, and M. Night Shyamalan. Blake Crouch also served as an executive producer for the series. While some of them have been known to be alive as of the final events of the first season, some may only come in flashbacks as they are already dead.

FOX also shared that the first season of the series ranked as the number 1 broadcast scripted series among Adults 18-49 for summer 2015. Throughout its run of ten episodes, “Wayward Pines” earned a multi-platform average audience of 9.4 million.
