Rumors have it that lead star Travis Fimmel who portrays the legendary Viking Ragnar Lothbrok may exit History Channel’s historical action-drama series “Vikings” sometime in the future as he has been cast in a role for a big screen project.
Although there is no official word from any concerned parties yet, fans suppose that with Fimmel’s “Warcraft” going into production, he may not continue his journey in the show.
What added to the speculation is Michael Hirst’s previous statement that he can imagine the plot without the character, “I’ve always seen Vikings without Ragnar. I thought it was very important when I started thinking about this whole thing that Ragnar had many sons and some of his sons became more famous than he was. So I can perfectly well envision a world without Ragnar and further adventures for the sons. Absolutely. That’s something I really, really want to do,” The Hollywood Reporter shares.
Fimmel also shared in the same interview that during the last installment they were trying to “man up” and introduce other people to take on bigger parts. However, it still remains to be seen if this comes into fruition.
Meanwhile, a recently released sneak peek showed some exciting twists and turns for the new season.
A narrator can be heard saying in the background, “‘Vanity of vanities’ says the preacher, vanity of vanities, always vanity. What profit has a man under of all his labor, which he taketh under the sun? One generation passeth away and one generation comes.” Ragnar also arrests Loki for the death of Athelstan while he says that he betrays not only his trust but worse, his love for him.
Afterwards, a scene depicting a battle has a warrior telling Rollo that his brother is coming with a vengeance. The clip ended with the words that read, “War never ends.”
Season four is slated to air sometime in 2016 while season three with extended and unrated episodes is now available on Blu-ray and DVD versions.
