Damon will put his life in danger more than once this upcoming season after losing Elena.
Actor Ian Somerhalder himself made the revelation in a TVLine interview and said that his character will be going through a lot of emotional turmoil and yet still have to protect the ones he loves from danger.
“He comes near death a couple of times and has to start protecting people. So it really becomes about him protecting this box and fighting with his mom; he’s really not happy with his madre at all,” he said.
As for life after Elena, Somerhalder earlier hinted that his character will, for a while go back to the Damon of the earlier seasons.
“Elena said, ‘Go have fun and live your life. He waited for Katherine for 150 years and he sure as hell wasn’t a saint in that time. Damon’s a pretty sadistic guy, but he’s also very logical even if his logic is a little skewed sometimes. He’s thinking that he’s got 60 years to chill … so if he makes enemies and gets into fights and st’s going down with these heretics, he’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s get in there. Let’s fk it up!'”
The season will also explore the relationship between Damon and Bonnie but things may not be clear cut for a possible romance as Damon’s grief causes him to endanger Bonnie’s life early into the season.
Contrary to Damon’s lovelife, Stefan may see his relationship with Caroline progress this season, but since the lives of the Salvatorre brothers comes with a lot of complications, it also will face some challenges.
Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, said in an interview that he is confident that Caroline and Stefan will finally be together after Caroline is able to sort out her issues with the death of her mother. He added that fans should rest assured that eventually, the heart will win out.
The Vampire Diaries returns for its seventh season on The CW on October 8.
