The wait is over as Lifetime finally revealed the roster of new regulars making their debut in the highly anticipated second season of “UnREAL.”
According to Deadline, the comedy drama which parodies a dating reality series will introduce “Hawaii Five-O” alum Monica Barbaro, “Jane the Virgin” star Michael Rady, “Turn: Washington’s Spises” alum Gentry White alongside Denee Benton.
The story of the show revolves around the fictitious behind-the-scenes of dating reality series “Everlasting.” The second season will see Barbaro having the role of the contestant named Yael who is touted to drive Rachel (Shiri Appleby) crazy as she is deemed to be the less insane and hotter version of her.
Meanwhile, Benton will play Ruby, the contestant who is described as very smart and not interested in doing what the producers tell them to do. Rady will play the part of Coleman, a New York University Student from East Coast who is filming a documentary. On the other hand, White will play Darius Hill’s (B.J. Britt) cousin.
Reports claim that “UnREAL” will be going where no dating reality series have gone before – introducing the first African-American suitor named Darius Hill. He is teased to be a former professional football player who agreed to be in the reality show in order to have his tainted image be redeemed after a scandal.
During the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour show, creator Sarah Gertrude Shapiro admitted that having the character was not an easy-feat.
“Breaking this story is so scary. I’m a Jewish white girl breaking a story about race, I mean we have people of color on our staff and they’ve definitely taken a very, very primary role in talking about a lot of these things, but it’s terrifying,” she said.
“UnREAL” season 2 is expected to be released sometime this summer.
