'The Winds of Winter' plot spoilers: Will Arianne Martell find Aegon Targaryen? book rumored to feature Second Battle of Blackwater

Fans of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series continue to remain anxious about the upcoming sixth book, “The Winds of Winter,” which will feature Arianne Martell as a point of view character alongside the speculated Second Battle of Blackwater.

“A Song of Ice and Fire” series author George R.R. Martin shared a new excerpt from the upcoming “The Winds of Winter” earlier this month which featured a snippet story written from the perspective of Arianne Martell, setting her as one of the main characters in the book.

As Arianne is one of the main and point of view characters, the book is speculated to shed some focus on the southern part of Westeros and the Dorne peninsula. Not present in HBO’s live action “Game of Thrones” adaptation, Arianne Martell is the eldest daughter of House Martell under Prince Doran, the ruler of Dorne.

The excerpt revealed that Arianne will be sent by her father to find out more about the existence of Aegon Targaryen, the supposed surviving son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Arianne’s aunt Elia. If Aegon’s survival is true, then his existence could mean severe implications for the Seven Kingdoms because of her other aunt, Daenerys.

The iDigital Times speculated that “The Winds of Winter” might finally feature Daenerys’ attack on King’s Landing, marking the Second Battle of Blackwater. The previous time King’s Landing faced a siege was when Stannis Baratheon marched his army towads the Seven Kingdoms’ capital to take the crown from his supposed nephew Joffrey.

Stannis’ attack would have succeeded, with his army overwhelming King’s Landing’s defending forces, if not for the timely arrival of Tywin Lannister who brought along the army of House Tyrell.

The current storyline has Tywin Lannister dead and Tyrion, who was one of the main reasons King’s Landing lasted as long as it did because he took command of the garrison, now on the side of Daenerys and her horde of combined dragons, Dothraki, Unsullied, and former slaves.

If Arianne succeeds in finding or retrieving Aegon, then Daenerys is no longer the last Targaryen heir.
