Given the lack of any official update with regard to the release date of “The Winds of Winter,” numerous speculations have been going around which tries to pinpoint when author George R.R. Martin will finally roll out the book. The latest from the pool of rumors is a possible early 2017 launch, specifically sometime around January.
Rumor has it that Martin is already in the home stretch of writing the much-anticipated novel. However, the writing part is only one of many stages in the book publishing process. The draft that Martin submits to his editors will still undergo heavy editing. Normally, after books are initially checked, which includes proof and copy editing, it will still be subject to rewrites up until it is ready to publish.
The critically acclaimed writer of the “A Song of Fire and Ice” series has always been open about the fact that his writing method takes longer compared to other novelists. In fact, on a recent panel with another author, Stephen King, Martin unabashedly asked him how he is able to come up with a book as fast as he does.
“How the f*** do you write so fast? I have a good six months and crank out 3 chapters, meanwhile you wrote 3 books in that time,” Martin questioned, to which King answered that he trained himself to finish six pages of his current book each day.
“You always get six pages? You never get constipated? You never get up and go get the mail, and think ‘Maybe I don’t have any talent and should have been a plumber,'” Martin exclaimed in shock.
The 67-year-old has previously missed two deadlines set by his publisher. Despite this, it does not appear like it was anything intentional. This year, he even opted to minimize his schedules in order to fully concentrate on writing. Prior to that, a lengthy blog post was also published in his journal explaining the situation with his writing and apologizing to anxious fans.
Meanwhile, a new alleged spoiler for the sixth iteration of “A Song of Ice and Fire” reveals that Jon Snow will eventually develop romantic feeling for Arya Stark. On top of that, the affair is also said to end with their marriage. Should this rumor come to fruition, it will be an interesting plot point for HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which is the small screen adaptation of the popular novel series.
