Fans of George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” are still in the long waiting game, as there is still no clear progress update regarding the situation that the latest book in the series, “The Winds of Winter,” is in now. However, while fans have yet to see the sixth book installment, the author and creator of the world that has been the basis of the hit HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones” has something new for his fans.
In his new Live Journal post, Martin revealed that there would be a special commemorative event marking the 20th anniversary of the first book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, “A Game of Thrones.”
Martin recalled that while the book started out to be a good selling piece, sales back then was not as good as now, and the book never even made it in any of the best-seller lists. But in the span of twenty long years, the series has been catapulted to higher ranks, and is now an indispensable part of best-seller lists in different parts of the world.
“It has been a helluva twenty years, twenty years that have transformed my life and career, twenty years during which the novel has never been out of print,” Martin said. “And something like that has to be commemorated.”
The special illustrated edition of “A Game of Thrones” would be released on Oct. 18. This would feature the same original story of the first book in the series with an added introduction by author, actor and humorist John Hodgman. There would also be a total of 73 black and white interior illustrations, with 48 of them never before seen. Furthermore, eight spectacular full color plates will also be included.
As for “The Winds of Winter,” this is what the author had to say: “I have no announcement to make on that front.”
