The tenth episode of “The Walking Dead” had given the Alexandrians “New Best Friends.” The showrunner reveals that it’s a preparation for a “brutal” war ahead.
“Rick is in recruitment mode,” the series executive producer, Greg Nicotero, revealed to Entertainment Tonight recently. “Nothing is going to stop him. He will do what he needs to do to recruit the people to fight alongside him,” he added.
In the last episode of season 7, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) won his battle against the armored walker, and he had convinced Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), the leader of the Scavengers, to join in the fight against Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hostile troop, the Saviors.
Nicotero described the junkyard crowd as “very smart group of people.” He advised the series’ avid fans to replay the midseason premiere to pick up clues behind the Scavengers’ decision to kidnap Gabriel (Seth Gilliam).
In the big picture, the Alexandrians are buckling down to fight Negan, but the showrunner teased that Rick’s people are actually facing emotional struggles.
“Rosita is angry because she feels guilty about losing Eugene and not being able to kill Negan. Sasha is still pissed about losing Abraham. Aaron has been beaten up. Rick has been subjugated,” Nicotero explained as this would contribute to the season’s “brutal and awful” end.
“They’re all standing at the same starting line just trying to figure out who is going to go first,” he continued.
As seen in the previous episodes, the Saviors has captured Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and according to Nicotero, he’s the worst person to be taken away. The viewers would soon get to see Negan’s highly-condemned brutality.
Meanwhile, another highlight of the 10th episode was Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) reunion with Carol (Melissa McBride). Daryl lied to his friend about the gruesome death of some of their allies. The show executive felt that Carol’s lack of knowledge of the truth is a crucial moment.
The next episode of “The Walking Dead” season 7 airs on Feb. 26 on AMC.
