AMC recently released the first official image from the upcoming seventh season of the hit TV series “The Walking Dead.” Series showrunner Greg Nicotero also teased what to expect from the premiere episode of the new season, and how much more of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) fans would be getting in the future.
The new image for season 7 featured a look at Negan, as he sports his wired bat, which he had fondly named Lucille, in front of what may be assumed as the victim that he would be seen killing off someone from the group of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero confirmed that the upcoming premiere of the seventh season would immediately pick up from the last scene of the sixth season and answer the long running question whose head meets the end of Lucille, Negan’s wire-clad baseball bat?
“Yes, who was at the receiving end of Negan’s bat will be revealed in the first episode,” Nicotero said. The executive producer also directed both the season finale of season six as well as the premiere episode for the upcoming new season.
Aside from the much awaited reveal of the identity of who would be meeting his or her fate early on in the new season, Nicotero also teased that fans would be getting more rants and long monologues from Negan, as that is the kind of guy that he really is.
“He’s the kind of guy who imagines himself on stage at a high school production and he loves every second of it. So, I don’t really see a lot of quiet contemplative moments with Negan. I feel like with Negan it’s really going to be about him gesticulating and him sort of relishing in the sound of his own voice while he commands the stage in front of whoever’s alive,” the showrunner explained.
“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Oct. 9.
