When “The Walking Dead” season 6 finale aired last April, fans who followed Robert Kirkman’s comic book series knew something horrible was about to happen when Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) swung his barb wire coated bat, Lucille.
Of course, there is one big difference between the comics and the show. While issue number 100 of the comics clearly showed the identity of Negan’s victim, the TV series decided to take a different path by keeping it a mystery. Thus, season 6 ended with a cliffhanger, intensifying the anticipation for the next season all the more.
Who did Negan hit with the bat?
Actor Michael Cudlitz, who plays Abraham Ford, talked with PopSugar recently and revealed that his character would survive the encounter. Cudlitz said that Kirkman was never happy with Abraham’s death in the comics, so they decided to change it. Instead of Abraham dying with an arrow through the eye similar to his comic book counterpart, another character died instead. Cudlitz stated that his character “will continue for a while now,” and that viewers could see him interact with Negan.
What Cudlitz shared effectively narrows down the list of Negan’s potential victims. However, sources said Cudlitz and Steven Yeun, who played Glenn Rhee, were the only actors who haven’t been spotted on set since filming began for season 7.
It is possible that Cudlitz is misleading the fans with this revelation. His character is one of the leading candidates to be Negan’s first victim after all.
Meanwhile, Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, and Carol Peletier, played by Melissa McBride, are expected to survive as they are allegedly seen filming a scene for season 7 episode 10.
Will Abraham survive? What about Daryl and Carol? Fans will know for sure when “The Walking Dead” season 7 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
