The production team behind The Voice is reportedly looking to replace one of its coaches in response to plummeting ratings in the previous season.
The production is also reportedly planning to recruit controversial pop star Justin Bieber as a new judge for the hit NBC show.
According to Hollywood Life, NBC producer Mark Burnett has noticed the declining ratings in Season 8 and has made big plans for The Voice.
“This last season of The Voice had its finale be the least rated ever and Mark Burnett has taken notice … He wants to mix it up to get ratings up and get younger viewers to watch the show … [and] one of the seats the show wants to fill is [with] Justin Bieber,” an anonymous source told Hollywood Life.
Ecumenical News also said that long-time coaches Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Blake Shelton are confirmed to return for the ninth season. However, there is still no news on who the other two judges will be.
Christina Aguilera, who appeared in several seasons of the show, is one of the options. However, Aguilera is reportedly disliked by members of the production team because of alleged diva behavior.
According to Radar Online, The Voice’s staffers are expressing dislike for Aguilera because of alleged tardiness, a demanding attitude and constant disagreements with the other coaches particularly Adam Levine.
“She was really difficult to work with this season. Tensions between her and Adam were consistent, but she also just had a really bad attitude,” a source told Radar Online about Aguilera.
“She showed up late a lot, took forever for hair and makeup and was just very demanding,” the source added.
Staffers instead want either Gwen Stefani or Shakira back to the show, the Venture Capital Post reported.
Other options include previous coaches Pharrell Williams and Usher.
