With some members of the main cast exiting CW’s long-running series, “The Vampire Diaries,” new faces will be introduced to kick off the next phase of the show when it returns on October 8 for season seven.
Showrunner Caroline Dries told The Hollywood Reporter that Lily Salvatore alongside the Heretics will be given more focus.
“It’s this love triangle, if you will, which we’ve created between Damon, Stefan, and Lily. They love her, and care for her, in different ways. They hate her, they have mixed feelings towards her, they have resentment, they love her, because they used to love her and raised them. They feel guilty because she died and they didn’t know she was still alive. There’s just a million emotions.”
Dries said that her character is currently the most complicated one where viewers may have a hard time choosing between rooting for her and hating her for abandoning the brothers while she created another version of a family, “Right now, she is the heart and soul of the conflict.”
When it comes to Heretics, the executive producer also mentioned that there will be six new roles composed of three males and three females Beau, Malcolm, Oscar, Valerie, Mary Louise and Nora.
Beau and Malcolm are the closest to Lily as they are described as the “henchman” and her “pet,” respectively. On the other hand, Oscar is the mysterious guy who will only be mentioned in the premiere.
Moreover, Valerie will be a new dark character to watch for as her backstory is “she got burned in the past, and it transformed her into this person; she wasn’t always this way.” Mary Louise and Nora will carry the fun side of the group as they explore their newfound freedom by dating and going after their own desires.
In a separate interview, Dries revealed that Stefan and Caroline’s love story will be developed into what may be a happy ending for the delight of fans, “As much as there’s chaos around her, every time she looks at Stefan she gets butterflies. So, it’s only a matter of time before it’s like… ‘You make me happy.’ So, we’ll see them get together soon,” TV Guide reports.
Season seven will premiere on October 8 and may have some episodes directed by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.
