“The Vampire Diaries” may now only be looking at one last season and a couple of episodes before it officially ends its long run on The CW as hinted by lead star, Ian Somerhalder.
E! News reported that Somerhalder’s comments were made during his stint at the Nashville’s Walker Stalker Con where the event’s official Twitter account posted an update quoting the actor saying, “We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice.”
The revelation from the actor, who plays one-half of the Somerhalder brothers, Damon, came in just a week after Kat Graham confirmed to US Weekly that she will be leaving the show after season 8.
“Season 8 will be my last season,” the actress who plays Bonnie, Damon’s current love interest said. “But you know what? Another season is a whole other year, and we’re going to blow it out.”
As previously reported, show creator Julie Plec put the fate of “The Vampire Diaries” on the hands of Somerhalder and Paul Wesley who plays the other Salvatore brother, Stefan, saying whatever the two decided on, she will just follow. As long as the two are on board in telling more stories, Plec said that she will keep on coming up with more ways to offer fresh content to the show’s viewers.
There is still, however, no official statement whether the show will end after season 8 or if there will be some new stories to tell that will eventually have them pursue a ninth installment.
Meanwhile, “The Vampire Diaries” season 7 will continue this week with an episode titled “One Way or Another.” Spoilers revealed that Damon will once again try to save his brother and in his adventure, he will come across a new vampire named Ambrose, who may have the information he needs to track down Stefan. Unfortunately for him, it looks like it will be a one man mission as Alaric (Matt Davis) refuses to come back to his old life hunting vampires.
The official synopsis for the episode as revealed by Spoilers Guide reads, “Determined to capture an escaped vampire named Ambrose, who may be the key to getting Stefan back safely, Damon heads to Memphis with Alaric in tow. However, reluctant to step back into his former vampire hunting ways, Alaric makes his unwillingness to participate clear, while revealing the truth about the past three Damon-less years of his life. Meanwhile, in the psych ward, Bonnie meets a young woman named Virginia (guest star Aisha Duran), who provides her with some valuable information about why The Armory may be after her. Finally, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) takes matters into his own hands when he learns some devastating news from Rayna (guest star Leslie-Anne Huff).”
“The Vampire Diaries” airs every Friday, 8 P.M. EST on The CW.
