The fourth season of “The Originals” will be coming back in 2017, and the new installment comes with a five-year time jump along with the continuation of the characters’ storylines, including Hayley’s (Phoebe Tonkin) search for a cure for her friends, and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) uneasy relationship.
Marcel is a vampire who was turned by Klaus. In the season 3 finale, Marcel launched a war against the Mikaelsons and brought a lot of Klaus’ enemies to town. He even put his old mentor on trial and bit Elijah (Daniel Gillies). At the trial, Marcel decided to use Papa Tunde’s (Owiso Odera) blade on Klaus, knowing that subjecting him to unending pain and torment will be a better punishment than killing him. Marcel then had Klaus entombed in an unknown location while the rest of the Mikaelson siblings fell in very deep sleep. Meanwhile, Hayley drove off with her baby daughter Hope in search of a cure for her friends.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec spoke about Marcel and Klaus’ relationship, saying, “The indignity of Klaus Mikaelson’s situation the last five years [is being] held captive by his surrogate son and forced to be an advisor to a king that he does not recognize.”
Making this relationship even more complicated is the fact that Klaus owes his life to Marcel.
“[He knows] Marcel is actually singularly responsible for the fact he’s alive, because so many people have come to town in the last five years desperate to see him reduced to ash,” said Plec.
It remains to be seen whether Marcel will choose to get the blade from Klaus’ body in season 4. At this point, a lot of people in New Orleans are very unhappy with Marcel’s actions, but it looks like he’s going to have one friend in the upcoming season.
“Marcel does keep counsel with a very beautiful vampire played by Taylor Cole named Sofya,” said Davis to TVLine. “In season 3, she worked for Lucien, but now she works for me. So I got one friend, but I pay her.”
“The Originals” season 4 premieres in 2017 on The CW.
