'The Last of Us 2' release date update: Brainstorming started in 2013, but is it in production?

Around nine months ago, a sequel for the action-adventure and survival horror game “The Last of Us” was seemingly confirmed, after a statement from North Nolan, who played David in the game, was misinterpreted. Although Nolan has already clarified that the sequel was from his perspective as a fan, there are still rumors that a sequel will indeed come.

There are speculations that the game is currently in production, with some talks even indicating that Naughty Dog has started developing it after the successful release of “The Last of Us” three years ago.

According to Shu Yoshida, a respected expert in the tech industry, Neil Druckmann, the creative director of Naughty Dog was already exploring ideas for the sequel after the release of “The Last of Us” in 2013, reported Master Herald.

The same thing was stated by Movie Pilot, which revealed that the staff is already working on ideas, characters, and prototypes, when they were pulled out to focus first on “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.” The title will already be released in a little more than a month, which may mean that the work can at least partially go back to “The Last of Us 2,” should there be a plan to continue the sequel.

As for the storyline, there are rumors that Ellie (Ashley Johnson) will become the main character in the story, after David, the former cannibal leader, met his death on the hands of Ellie in self-defense. On the other hand, there is also a possibility for Naughty Dog to completely change the cast in the sequel.

At this point, no concrete details have been revealed regarding “The Last of Us 2.” Fans will still have to take information with a grain of salt and wait for the official announcement from the developers.
