'The Last of Us 2' release date: Will Naughty Dog officially announce the game at E3 2017?

The gaming world already knows that “The Last of Us 2” is on Naughty Dog’s plate, thanks to a little slip by writer Josh Scherr. But when will the studio officially unveil the game? When will it come out?

Some sources say Naughty Dog may announce the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June next year, while others believe the announcement may come a year later in 2018.

Articles on Movie News Guide and iTech Post suggested that Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann confirmed that the game is coming out in 2021. However, a little fact checking revealed that Druckmann never made those comments. He told radio station 89.3 KPCC’s The Frame that the first game took three and a half years to write, but he never mentioned anything about the sequel’s release date.

In fact, the sequel was never mentioned since the interview was about Druckmann’s creative process in making games like the “The Last of Us” and “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.” The 2021 release date for “The Last of Us 2” is simply guesswork at best and it is not set in stone.

Meanwhile, Druckmann recently tweeted that he has finally made some progress in his writing. Is he talking about the script for “The Last of Us 2” or something else? His followers were quick to ask what he was working on. However, Druckmann refused to comment.

Fans of the first game can breathe a sigh of relief because the sequel will certainly come out in the future. A “The Last of Us” linked Easter egg was even found in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.”

As of this moment, Naughty Dog has yet to announce the details regarding “The Last of Us 2,” so readers are advised to take everything with a grain of salt.
