When the trailer for the upcoming sequel of “The Last of Us” game was shown during the PSX 2016 event, fans are surprised that the main characters from the first game, Ellie and Joel, made a return. As such, most are worried about the sequel, but Neil Druckmann addressed most of the questions during a panel held at the PSX.
According to Game Spot, Druckmann started his panel by confirming that “The Last of Us 2” will take place a few years following the events of the first game, with Ellie now aged at 19. Of course, this raised some worries among fans, especially the fact that a sequel involving them might decrease the dramatic and the overall value the duo went through in the first game, but Druckmann acknowledged it.
He assures fans that so much thought was given to the sequel and that they also feel the worry of spoiling the first game because of their decision. He even went so far as to say that the developers love Ellie and Joel more than all the fans can ever do, and they will not do this if they felt like their idea was not in the right place.
Furthermore, Druckmann said that Naughty Dog is ensuring that the two games will become like companions that would depict an overarching narrative when placed alongside each other. He explains that he thought of so many ideas about the game featuring different characters but it never felt right.
As such, it is then that he thought that “The Last of Us” is about the two characters specifically, and that Part 2 is just a complimentary story. Polygon reports that based on his statements, the two games combined will tell a much larger story.
“The Last of Us Part 2” still has no definite release date as of writing.
