Disney has finally set a specific date for the sequel of “The Incredibles” which will see the family of superheroes on the big screen again for “The Incredibles 2.”
According to Variety, the studio has announced the schedule of 19 films slated to be released starting 2017 throughout 2020 with The Incredibles 2 hitting the theaters on June 21, 2019. The date is still contingent on the production having no problems or any kind of delay. It remains to be seen if it will be adjusted in the years to come.
Brad Bird returns to the franchise to take the helm as both the director and the writer. Although details about the plot are being kept under wraps, speculations started circulating online.
When it comes to potential villains, some reports claim that it may revisit the character of Edna Mode. The outfit maker for superheroes who created each member’s suits based on their abilities was previously voiced by the director. Talking about the experience of being a voice actor, “I was exceedingly cheap and available,” Bird said.
In a separate interview, he teased that some ideas that did not make it in the first one may be included this time, “So there were a pile of ideas left over from “The Incredibles,” but it’s not a big thing. There were little scenes and things that I was interested in. I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different.”
Meanwhile, mixed predictions put the youngest in the brood Jack-Jack either as an antagonist or the main focus of the storyline. In the original installment, it was only revealed by the end of the film that he has the power to mimic whatever element he has contact with.
For Incredibles 2, it is assumed that settings may have a futuristic timeline where his siblings are now grown-ups in which it will be interesting to see how they develop in terms of being adults and heroes.
More information regarding the movie is expected to be made known as the production starts to take shape.
