The Good Wife season 7; Justified's Margo Martindale joining show as Willa Eastman; will be at odds with Eli Gold

Eli Gold had better level up his game as new character Willa Eastman will definitely pose a new challenge to Peter Florick’s campaign manager.

The new character will be played by award winning actress Margo Martindale, who bagged an Emmy for her role as Mags Bennett in Justified. Martindale guest starred in The Americans where she also earned Emmy nominations. She recently tried her hand at comedy in the sitcom The Millers where she starred opposite Will Arnett and Beau Bridges, reported Deadline.

“Every year we look for a character and an actor who can go toe-to-toe with Eli Gold and make him blink. So we were thrilled when Margo Martindale agreed to play Willa Eastman. Her ability to mix comedy and drama is unparalleled. And we can’t wait to see how Margo and Alan deal with each other,” executive producers Robert and Michelle King said to TV Guide.

According to a report by Variety, Willa Eastman will be a recurring character and a campaign operative who specializes in bringing wins for underdog candidates. Willa will be a shrewdly intelligent character who hides her cunning behind an affable faade. She is expected to clash periodically with Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold.

Martindale will be joined by another new cast member Jeffrey Dean Morgan who will play the character of Alex, a hired investigator who may also spark a romance with Juliana Margulies’ character Alicia Florick.

After the departure of Kalinda, played by Archie Panjabi, who may be working on the development of her own drama, and Finn Polmar, played by Matthew Goode who left the show to return to Downton Abbey for its final season, fans were waiting for news about new cast members who will flesh out the storylines for the upcoming season.

The seventh season of The Good Wife will return to CBS on October 4.
