The March 29 episode of “The Flash” will feature somebody returning from the dead as a mainstay character of the show during its first season stages a comeback: Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett). However, as the viewers of the show already know that Eddie ended his own life in the season one finale episode of “The Flash,” it goes without saying that his return will not be a normal one.
Eddie Thawne’s return to the show should not really come as a surprise as “The Flash’s” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had earlier revealed that there is a chance for the character to return to the show despite being already dead. He cited the show’s ability to “resurrect” dead characters as time travel and other aspects of science fiction are inherent parts of the series.
This particular episode of the “The Flash” will feature a Barry driven by despair and the dire need to increase his speed after finding out that Zoom and Jay Garrick are one and the same. With the burning desire to put an end to Zoom, he goes back in time, pretending to be his old self so that he can be mentored by his now archrival Dr. Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne on how to further increase his running speed.
“… However, things don’t go as planned and Barry is stunned to face familiar foe Hartley Rathaway (Andy Mientus), as well as old friend Eddie Thawne. Iris (Candice Patton) makes peace with her past in order to embrace her future,” goes the latter part of the synopsis for “The Flash” upcoming episode, simply but fittingly titled “Flash Back.”
Speaking of Hartley Rathaway/Pied Piper, no one really knows what happened to the character after Cisco accidentally let him escape in one of the episodes of “The Flash” season one. Apparently, with his return via “The Flash’s” March 29 episode, viewers of the series can only expect that he’ll try to exact vengeance and cause trouble to his former S.T.A.R. Labs colleagues.
Will Barry’s time travel engender the results that he aims for? How will he fare against the familiar faces that he will meet along the way?
