More interesting characters are about to make their debut in the upcoming season 3 of The CW’s superhero series “The Flash.”
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teases that Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) mother who has been mentioned only in passing before may be given more focus in the story. “We haven’t met Caitlin’s mother yet, so we got a little talk between the two women, which is something that will probably play out in season 3,” he revealed.
During the first two seasons, Caitlin’s mom had remained relatively unknown. When Caitlin met her Earth-2 doppelgnger Killer Frost in season 2, the two had a heart to heart discussion about their family, to which the former described the matriarch as “cold as ice” while the latter shared that hers is a “frigid narcissistic.” Frost elaborated that her mom became that way when her brother Charlie died, to which Caitlin revealed that she does not have a sibling in Earth-1.
According to Cinema Blend, the arrival of Caitlin’s mother makes sense as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) messed up the timeline to save his own mother during the season 2 finale. Presumably following the “Flashpoint” arc in the comics, it is speculated that a version of Caitlin’s mom, who never suffered a tragedy that turned her cold, could appear as part of the new present time. However, it remains to be seen if it comes to fruition and who will be cast for the role.
On a related note, there will also be a newcomer who is said to be Barry’s slightly older and geekier contemporary. The recurring character will be smart and as intuitive as the Speedster and will not buy into Barry’s nice guy routine. It is predicted that he will set out to learn what the Flash is hiding while concealing some secrets of his own.
Season 3 of “The Flash” is expected to premiere this fall.
