Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) short-lived love interest Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) may return in the upcoming season 3 of The CW’s “The Flash.”
According to Comicbook, during an appearance at last weekend’s Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, VanSanten was asked about the chances of reprising her role in the series. “There is a very strong possibility if everything works out,” the actress answered.
It can be recalled that Spivot was a recurring character during the sophomore run. She was introduced as a young CSI-in-training. After having a romantic relationship with Barry, she left to finish her education. If she indeed returns, it remains to be seen what version she will be playing this time with the new installment set in the world of “Flashpoint.”
Meanwhile, one of DC Comics’ most iconic villains, Dr. Alchemy, will also make his way to the small screen. Director Kevin Smith let it slip that the big bad will be appearing on the episode he helmed. “Love ‘directing’ @CW_TheFlash so much! We shot a scene with Alchemy last night. I had to hide my nerd-boner with my script the whole time…” he tweeted.
Although Smith did not mention who will be taking on the role, it is believed that the villainous character will be seen in episode 7 which is apparently titled “Killer Frost.” A popular fan theory points out that Dr. Alchemy could turn out to be the alter ego of Julian Dorn, to be portrayed by newcomer Tom Felton. Dorn will be Barry’s CSI boss who suspects that hero is keeping a big secret while at the same time also having a dark mystery of his own.
With less than a month before the premiere, the network has released a brand-new promotional poster featuring the scarlet speedster behind a bright red background. It is accompanied by the words that read, “New Destinies. New Danger.”
Season 3 of “The Flash” is slated to air on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
