A new speedster comes running to town!
The second season of The CW’s The Flash have closed the deal on the actor who will play the character of Wally West.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, Insurgent star Keiynan Lonsdale has been cast as Wally West for season 2, now the third speedster in the show. Lonsdale’s Wally West will take on the character of the Kid Flash.
Much like when actor Grant Gustin got the role of Barry Allen/The Flash, showrunner Andrew Kreisberg revealed that when they first met Lonsdale, they immediately knew that he had it to become the hero they had been looking for.
“Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero,” said EP Kreisberg. “We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”
Lonsdale will be making his entrance to the show in winter, and will be a series regular from then onwards. Previously cast as Jay Garrick, history’s very first The Flash was Teddy Sears. Actress Shantel VanSanten will also be coming to season 2, playing Patty Spivot, Barry’s potential new love interest.
Previously, Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco, talked about his character’s evolution into a superhero. “I think as people saw near the end of Season 1, there are biological changes that are happening to Cisco, specifically with like the dreams and the memories,” said Carlos Valdez, in a report by Screen Rant. “So, fans can definitely expect more of those biological changes to sort of take effect, especially at the beginning of Season 2.”
Another “heroic” transformation expected in season two is the transformation of Dr. Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) to Killer Frost. This was teased in the season finale, where she was one of the things Barry saw in the Speed Force.
The Flash returns to The CW on October 6.
