A classic comic book villain given a modern and unique twist will be coming to “The Flash” for the show’s midseason premiere. The Turtle will be coming to the series and will be played by actor Aaron Douglas.
According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, “Battlestar Galactica” alum Aaron Douglas will be coming to “The Flash” as it opens up the second part of its season next Tuesday, in the midseason premier episode titled “Potential Energy.”
In the original comic books, Turtle Man was a villain for Jay Garrick’s The Flash, someone who uses tricks of lawlessness to beat the hero in battle. His successor, called the Turtle Man as well, is a technological genius who uses devices to slow down Barry Allen in an attempt to beat him. In the hit CW series, the Turtle Man will be a metahuman who has been existing in the series since day one but was kept a secret by the team from Barry, as he was seen to be a villain that will have a great impact on himespecially now that Barry is determined to get faster in order to defeat his new nemesis Zoom.
“In a surprisingly funny twist, Cisco [Carlos Valdes] has actually been hunting The Turtle the entire series,” series executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “To Barry’s surprise, everybody knows about Cisco’s hunt for the great white whale, which is The Turtle; he’s the only one who didn’t know about it. We love the idea that there was a villain out there that they knew about, but they just haven’t bothered to tell the audience about yet. All Barry wants to do is get faster, because if he can get faster, he can take on Zoom. He’s going up against a villain who is literally slowing him down. This is one of our best episodes coming back that we’ve ever done. It feels big and emotional.”
“The Flash” returns with new episodes on The CW on Jan. 19.
