'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date: Bethesda admits game isn't in the works

It looks like the long waiting game has just started. Fans of “The Elder Scrolls” video game series faced reality when Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that “The Elder Scrolls 6” video game is not in the works as of the moment, but were also is quick to clarify that the game is indeed going to be made.

The news was delivered via Twitter by Pete Hines, the game developer’s vice president of Public Relations and Marketing. See the tweet below:

Hines mentioned that the sixth installment of the franchise isn’t in development yet for the simple reason that they’re currently busy working on other major titles.

Although it certainly isn’t the type of news fans want to hear, at least there is something they could keep themselves busy with while waiting for the official announcement for the yet-to-be-named video game of “The Elder Scrolls” series. For the moment, fans can get the next best thing in the form of “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition,” which will be released to the public on Oct. 28.

To recall, it was Todd Howard of Bethesda who made the confirmation that a new game in the series will be developed. He made the revelation during a YouTube Live stream at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last month. Well, that should be good enough reason for fans to remain hopeful that the new game will at least be officially announced by the end of the year.

The action role-playing game, at least in its first installments, was played on either a first-person or third-person shooter perspective. It isn’t clear if the new game will be embracing the same type of gameplay, although it is highly unlikely that Bethesda will deviate from it. In the previous game, “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” players were able to roam the open world type of environment named “Skyrim” and explore a landscape with forests, dungeons, castles, villages and cities.
