Big name actors don’t usually do TV shows. And if they do, it’s usually as a guest for an episode or two. But some shows are just luckier. Take “The Defenders” for instance. The series managed to get Sigourney Weaver to play the villain and her fellow cast members are excited at the prospect of working with her.
In an interview with the San Antonio Current, Charlie Cox, the actor playing Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, said that sharing the screen with Weaver would probably be one of the highlights of his career.
“I don’t think it gets better than Sigourney Weaver. I think we are immensely lucky to have her. It’s a testament to shows like ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Jessica Jones.’ The quality of those shows have drawn someone of her caliber, which is very exciting for us. I can’t wait to read it and have a scene with her. It’s one of the experiences I’ll probably remember for the rest of my career.”
Who wouldn’t want to act alongside the actress who has been a mainstay in the “Alien” film series? Some of the cast members probably watched Weaver’s Ellen Ripley battle Xenomorphs when they were young. As of this moment, the identity of Weaver’s character in the show is still unknown.
Meanwhile, Marvel TV has confirmed that Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Misty Knight (Simone Missick) are going to appear in “The Defenders.” Looks like the legal team of Murdock, Page, and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) is back.
Instead of the usual 13 episodes, Marvel Television has announced that “The Defenders” will only be an eight-episode series. S.J. Clarkson is also going to be directing the first two episodes of the show. Clarkson also directed the first two episodes of “Jessica Jones.”
“The Defenders” will debut on Netflix in 2017.
