The new season of “The Blacklist” is almost here, and season 4 of the hit NBC series is bound to reveal more about Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen). In the finale, Kirk kidnapped Liz (Megan Boone) just as she was about to start a new life in Cuba with Tom (Ryan Eggold) and their baby daughter. In the final moments of the episode, Kirk told Liz that his real name is Constantine Rostova and that he is her father.
Series creator Jon Bokenkamp spoke with TVLine about the upcoming installment, saying that the new season will pick up just moments after Kirk revealed himself to be Liz’s father.
“[Kirk] is a character who has a firm grasp on truths about Elizabeth Keen’s past, unlike any character we’ve had before,” said Bokenkamp. “Over time, he will be unpacking truths that are undeniable about who Elizabeth Keen is, where she comes from, what her connection is to Kirk, to her mother, and ultimately, to Reddington,” he continued.
Liz’s connection to Red Reddington (James Spader) has been one of the big mysteries of the show as it was previously thought that Red might be her father. While Kirk claims to be her father, it is expected that season 4 will reveal if he is telling the truth or whether he is playing games with Liz.
As for Liz and Red, the two certainly had their trials and disagreements, but after Liz faked her death in season 4, Red will feel betrayed, and there will be some tension between the two this season.
Bokenkamp said that after the events of season 3, the mood between Liz and Red will be “a bit chillier” when the show returns, and that it might be a while before the two characters share any screen time. The show creator also said that while Boone had to take some time off last season to give birth, fans will get to see more of the actress in season 4.
“The Blacklist” season 4 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
