The ninth season of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” opened with Amy (Mayim Bialik) breaking up with Sheldon (Jim Parsons). Though fans are expecting that the couple will get back together, they might have to wait longer. In the upcoming fourth episode, there will be more changes not only in Sheldon’s life but in his friends’ as well.
Titled “The 2003 Approximation,” the synopsis for the episode reads, “Sheldon learns of an impending change in his living arrangements and decides to revert back to 2003, a simpler time before he met Leonard and Penny. Also, Howard and Raj form a band to play at the Comic Book Store.”
In the 21-second preview uploaded on YouTube, fans can see Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Howard (Simon Helberg) exerting much effort to make their band succeed. They also wrote a song called “Thor vs. Indiana Jones” and played it in front of their friends.
As for the future of Sheldon and Amy, in an interview with E! in September, Bialik had to say this for her character, “I’m asked a lot, who would I like Amy to go out with, and we actually have some very interesting stuff coming up in that arena… I don’t think we’ll be seeing Ryan Gosling shirtless, or really anyone shirtless. Everyone’s shirts tend to stay on in Amy’s world.”
She added that Amy will probably look for someone in “her field” or someone who will not be that concerned with looks. This suggests that whoever Sheldon’s rival will be, it will not be eye candy.
Meanwhile according to showrunner Steve Molaro, the decision to separate the two characters was supported by the idea that even after five years of dating, Amy cannot have a moment with her boyfriend without him thinking about television. Still, Sheldon might try to win Amy back because he is “clearly fond of her.”
New episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” air every Monday at 8/7c on CBS.
