“The Big Bang Theory” ended on a cliffhanger last season as Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) father, Alfred (Judd Hirsch) left the dinner party with Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf) and the two had a nightcap at their hotel. The boys were horrified to learn that their parents were spending the night together, and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) gleefully informed them that they could potentially be brothers.
Season 10’s premiere will pick up right where the show left off. According to the official logline from CBS, after Alfred and Mary share an evening together, everyone deals with an awkward morning the next day. Also, Penny’s family arrives for the wedding ceremony, including her mother, Susan (Katey Sagal), and her drug dealing brother, Randall (Jack McBrayer).
While Leonard and Sheldon will certainly voice their opinions over their parents spending the night together, it’s possible that Mary and Alfred will also feel awkward after their nightcap. It is likely that the gang will know what transpired between the two after the dinner party, and Leonard and Sheldon will have to deal with it.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Penny’s family will certainly cause a distraction as executive producer Steve Molaro revealed that there will be tension between Penny’s mom and brother.
“As we know, her brother Randall has been a bit of trouble over the years, selling drugs and being in and out of jail, and that’s put a lot of stress on her mom,” Molaro told Entertainment Weekly.
“You will pick up on the tensions between her mother and her brother very quickly, and you get a glimpse of Penny and her dad being caught in the middle of that,” the producer added. Penny will likely get a lot of support from her father, Wyatt (Keith Carradine) as she is said to be very close to her dad.
“The Big Bang Theory” premieres on Sept. 19 on CBS.
