'Teen Wolf' season 5b news: MTV to air 6-minute teaser on New Year's Eve to formally start countdown to show's comeback

MTV will be ringing in the New Year in a different albeit welcomed way as they will be airing a marathon of “Ridiculousness” followed by a sneak peak of “Teen Wolf’s” season 5B.

According to Variety, MTV will have the teaser coincide with the airing of “Ridiculousness” episodes. Despite the change being a good one in terms of more variations in New Year’s Eve TV, it has caused rumors of cost cutting from the network. Usually, MTV does a Times Square countdown coverage as per other cable channels.

Meanwhile, a 25-second trailer video has also been released this week. While most of the shots included were already in the official teaser for the latter part of the current season, there were a few new ones that fans were quick to scrutinize.

Among the bunch was a screen capture of an unknown subject who looks like a woman slowly emerging from beneath the sand. While there is no official news on who or what the new character will be and bring, a post from Hypable theorized that it will be a skinwalker which is further described as a supernatural creature from the Native American legends.

The thought came about when series producer Jeff Davis talked about the aforementioned creatures when interviewed by Movie Pilot last month. He explained that Kira (Arden Cho) and her mom, Noshiko (Tamlyn Tomita), will have an encounter with skinwalkers while they are in New Mexico trying to look for a possible fix on Kitsune’s problems with her inner fox.

“Teen Wolf” season 5B will return next Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 9 P.M. on MTV.
