Still months away from its fifth and final season, “Switched at Birth” unveiled a new promo clip that hints that Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) might get into trouble.
The 30-second trailer titled “Relationships” gives a bit of a preview of how the show will explore all ties and bonds among major game players. And while there are heart-warming scenes included, the last one which involves the lovers prove to be a conversation starter.
As it turns out, Daphne and Mingo will be attending a costume party for Halloween where the latter will be dressing up as rapper Lil. Wayne. Given the sensitivity of racial issues as of late, Mingo receives backlash at the event. But things quickly get blown out of proportion when a photo of the two posted by Daphne goes viral on social media and more naysayers attack them.
A couple of months ago, show creator Lizzy Weiss already hinted that they will be tackling racial issues when they return for their forthcoming outing. In a brief Twitter Q&A, she spilled, “Though ours is actually campus race relations remember the Yale/UMissouri events from last fall. I expect controversy,” and adding, “But we have been pushed to January. The only depressing upside is that I am quite sure it will still be relevant.”
Daphne’s woes, unfortunately, do not end there as she is also scheduled to meet her mother Regina’s (Constance Marie) current lover, Luca (Michael Galante). The complexities of the situation do not only revolve on Bay’s (Vanessa Marano) biological mother jumping into a new relationship but also the age difference between her and her new beau.
“Switched at Birth’s” final season is slated to premiere on Jan. 24, 2017. The installment will consist of 10 episodes including a special 90-minute series finale to cap things off.
