A new character is rumored to be introduced in an upcoming downloadable content (DLC) for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros 4.
According to Geeksnack.com, Shantae, the eponymous main character from a successful series developed by WayForward, might be the next character to be added in the growing roster for Super Smash Bros 4 (SSB4) for the 3Ds and Wii U.
The rumors started when WayForward Creative director Matt Bozon posted a picture in Twitter showing Shantae merchandise being displayed beside iconic Nintendo characters, Geeksnack said.
The characters included Mario, Link from Zelda and Donkey Kong.
“Wow! Shantae sharing space with gaming’s greatest icons!! Thank you very much @NintendoAmerica,” Bozon’s Tweet said.
The WayForward director closed his post by saying: “See you in Smash,” fueling the rumors that Shantae might be included in SSB4 via DLC.
Nintendo has recently released the first DLC character for Super Smash Bros 4 the psychic Pokemon Mewtwo from the Pokemon series.
In addition, the Venture Capital Post reported, a character DLC that will add Lucas to SSB4 is set to be released in June this year.
Nintendo apparently intends to release more DLCs to add other characters to the roster in SSB4. According to iDigital Times, the company is currently running a “fighter ballot” through which video gamers can submit suggestions for characters that can be added to the game.
Nintendo is also open to adding characters from non-Nintendo franchises, telling gamers that they can submit any video-game character to the ballot.
“While we are unable to guarantee your suggested character will become a Super Smash Bros. Fighter, rest assured, we do take all feedback into consideration,” iDigital Times quoted a letter from Nintendo as saying.
A separate report by iDigital Times also revealed a fan-made trailer called “Super Smash Bros Z” featuring characters from Dragon Ball Z. However, the report also said that it is unlikely that Nintendo will release a Dragon Ball Z DLC for SSB4.
