Super Smash Bros 4 DLC release date: gamers tipped to get three new characters

Although Super Smash Bros 4 already has numerous characters in line, fans are still waiting for additional characters to be included in its DLCs. Fans had the chance to voice out their choices through the Fighter Ballot that was introduced by Masahiro Sakurai, game director, at the Direct Event until October 3, but with more than two weeks passing now, no news has been revealed yet as to who made the roster.

Just last month, Super Smash Bros 4 had its DLC, which included add-in game bonuses such as additional costumes. Some fans are expecting more details on its expansion, including additional characters, but with its developers skipping that detail from its previous DLC, it is giving them hope that the next announcement would already include new characters.

User Neoxon said in NeoGaf, “The 1.1.1 Smash update has 3 empty character slots and 4 (2 ?, 2 norm) stage slots, an increase of one each. Neat,” notes Yibada.

With this, rumors are buzzing that there will be three additional characters that will be introduced in the DLC, but it is still not definite as to which three are these additions. Some guesses include Professor Layton, Shovel Knight, Inkling, Rool, Ridley, Isaac, and Wolf. Last week, there were posts in the internet regarding Shovel Knight amiibo appearing in the Super Smash Bros roster, leading to assumptions that Shovel Knight is the first of the three, since the photo was posted from Nintendo Life Sources.

However, Yacht Club Games, developer of Shovel Knight, clarified last week that it was a listing error. It is unclear whether Shovel Knight will indeed be one of the additional characters or not, given the contradicting information from different sides. Nonetheless, the information gathered by Nintendo after its Fighter Ballot event is that most fans want the fighter in Super Smash Bros 4, as noted by Christian Post. Aside from Shovel Knight, two of the strongest contender in the roster is Professor Layton and Wolf.

No official statement has been announced by Nintendo. Super Smash Bros 4 is available for Wii U and 3DS consoles.
